Reports suggest Toby Alderweireld may make contract U-turn

Big contract news out today, as reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld may make a stunning contract U-turn in the near future.

The Belgian star was linked with a move away to Manchester United all summer, and was said to want an exit out of North London.

This came after the club and Alderweireld’s representatives failed to agree terms over a new deal, with the star reportedly wanting to received pay parity with the likes of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

Now, a respected journalist is claiming that the relationship between Toby and manager Pochettino is much improved, and if things continue to go well, there is a good chance that a new contract will be signed.

That’s according to journalist Alasdair Gold.

Alderweireld’s current deal runs out in the summer, but Tottenham do have the option to extend the deal for an extra year.

This will however make the star available to other clubs for £25m during one week of the summer transfer window, meaning that an exit would be extremely likely.

Spurs will much prefer the option to sign up the 29-year-old to a new bumper deal, if terms can be agreed.

Alderweireld’s long-term Belgium, Tottenham, and Ajax defensive partner Jan Vertonghen is expected to have his contract extended by an extra year in the coming week.
