Richard Keys reveals what has been told about Pochettino

With Tottenham going into the international break on the back of two embarrassing defeats, it is to be expected that the headlines for the proceeding couple of weeks would be filled with negative headlines about the players and manager.

Reports have already emerged suggesting the players are tired of Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics (the Athletic), and beIN SPORTS anchor Richard Keys has now backed up that assertion.

The 62-year-old revealed that he is hearing that the Argentine has lost the dressing room and insisted that there was only one way this situation could end.

In his blog, Keys wrote, “I certainly didn’t expect the mess that’s developed at Spurs. Pochettino has got to go. Pochettino will go. It’s the only way to start the healing process. Both he and that dressing room need a new start.

“They’ve grown tired of each other. It’s as true today as it always was – either change the coach regularly, or the players. The latter isn’t going to happen so it’s got to be Poch. I’m being told that he’s lost the players. As we know, that only ends one way.”

The presenter also went on to claim that England manager Gareth Southgate is Spurs’ prefered choice to replace Pochettino at the helm and that when the Spurs boss leaves, Kane will have to make a big decision regarding his future.

Keys added, “Pochettino will get another good job and Spurs will get Gareth Southgate. That’s where the smart money is.

“We’ll have to wait and see whether that’s enough to persuade Harry Kane that he can win medals with Spurs. He’s got a big decision to make very soon now if he doesn’t want to end his playing days with just memories.”

Tottenham will resume their Premier League campaign in a couple of weeks at home against Watford who are rooted to the bottom of the table.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is extremely unlikely that Richard Keys based this on any authentic inside source. I don’t think Pochettino is under the threat of losing his job at the moment. However, if we don’t turn our form around in the next 3 or 4 games, perhaps the Argentine’s position will become untenable.
