Richard Keys says Spurs-linked centre-back has not asked to leave this summer

Richard Keys has said that rumoured Tottenham target Harry Maguire has not asked to leave Manchester United this summer and that the Old Trafford hierarchy would have to ‘settle’ the centre-back’s contract situation if they wish to offload him.

Multiple reports over the last couple of months have indicated that Spurs are set to make wholesale changes at centre-back ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge (Football.London).

Some publications have reported over recent weeks that Spurs have held talks with Man Utd over a deal for Maguire but it has also been suggested that the player’s £189,904 per week salary might be a stumbling block in any potential deal (London World).

GiveMeSport even claimed a couple of weeks ago that United were ready to slash their asking price for the England international to around £35m as they are keen to offload the experienced defender.

Maguire was stripped of the United captaincy recently and the 30-year-old is alleged to have been surprised and disappointed by Erik Ten Hag’s decision and is thus thought to be keen on a move away from Old Trafford (The Sun).

However, this information has now been contradicted by Keys, with the beIN SPORTS presenter claiming that the former Leicester City man is happy to remain at the Manchester club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Maguire would need to take a significant wage cut if he is to leave United, which is perhaps why the centre-back wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place. I certainly cannot see Tottenham being willing to make the 30-year-old one of the highest earners in their squad.
