Richarlison reveals details of Conte phone call before he joined Spurs

Richarlison has revealed a phone call from Antonio Conte convinced him that a move to Tottenham would be the right decision.

Spurs agreed a deal worth £60m including add-ons to snap up Richarlison during the summer and the forward has made a promising start to life at the club.

He already has four goal contributions to his name this season (Transfermarkt) and it was the Brazilian’s tenacity and perseverance that helped Tottenham win a penalty in the first half of the North London derby on Saturday.

Conte revealed a few days ago that it is Richarlison’s fearlessness and never-say-die attitude that makes him so difficult to play against (Football.London).

The Italian will count on the former Everton man even more over the next couple of weeks, with Dejan Kulusevski joining Lucas Moura on the treatment table.

Richarlison has now opened up on the phone call he had with Conte in the summer ahead of his switch to the Lilywhites.

He told BT Sport: “He called me. Told me he was counting on me, he knew I can play in all three attacking positions, so I would be very important to the club.

“That made me feel confident to come because all a player wants is a coach who trusts him.”

Richarlison is, in many respects, the typical Conte player. The Brazilian works tirelessly off the ball and plays with the sort of aggression that the Italian demands.

His ability to play across the frontline made him an ideal fit for Tottenham’s system and the early signs are that the money spent on the 25-year-old was well worth it.
