‘Right characteristics’ – Pundit claims £15m Spurs target would be a good fit for Conte

Former Serie A defender Massimo Brambati has claimed Lazio’s Manuel Lazzari has the ‘right characteristics’ to play in a Tottenham side led by Antonio Conte.

Conte has started his tenure at Spurs well since being appointed as the club’s new manager last month and is preparing for his first transfer window in charge this January.

The 52-year-old instantly switched the side into his preferred variations of the 3-5-2 formation, with much of the play being driven by the wing-backs.

Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal have taken to their new starting roles confidently, but it is the options deeper into the squad that may cause the Spurs boss some concern.

As such, Tottenham are said to have shortlisted Lazzari, 28, as a potential option for Conte in January to further build strength in depth.

Italian football pundit Brambati believes the Lazio man, who could be available for around £15 million, ticks a lot of boxes for Conte and could see him transition well into the Premier League.

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, he said: “I understood that, in the Premier League, Conte prefers to have ‘physical’ players.

“You can have running ability but, if you don’t have the physical structure, you struggle. The player has the running ability, he has the right characteristics but you have to see if it coincides with what the coach has in mind.

“I understand that he is happy with the attitude of the [Tottenham] team in training. But that there is a lot of work to be done and that the chairman [Daniel Levy] can give him some gifts.

“But I think the bulk [of the new signings] will be done in June.”

Conte definitely will want to strengthen the defence at his disposal and he will look to do that in January as soon as possible. If Conte believes someone like Lazzari is the type of profile Spurs need to be looking at, then the club will have to trust his judgement.
