‘Right step’ – Radu Dragusin’s agent explains why Tottenham were chosen

Florin Manea, the agent of Radu Dragusin, has spoken to the press after his client secured a move to Tottenham Hotspur, and revealed exactly why the player chose to turn down Bayern Munich in favour of the Lilywhites.

After identifying Radu Dragusin as their top target in their pursuit of a new centre-back, Spurs would have been forgiven for thinking the transfer would have been simple to negotiate. Especially given the player agreed personal terms with the club last week.

But, when Bayern Munich entered the race for the 21-year-old, too, Dragusin had a big decision to make, with Gianluca Di Marzio claiming the player would choose between the two clubs overnight on January 9.

This morning, Dragusin made his decision and travelled to London to seal the deal for a switch to Spurs. Fabrizio Romano revealed the transfer will cost Spurs £21.5m plus £4.3m in add-ons, with Djed Spence heading on loan to Genoa as part of the process.

Dragusin rejected big offer from Bayern

It was a rollercoaster ride, and at times it seemed Tottenham might miss out on their man, but the deal is now all but confirmed. And, speaking to Romanian outlet GSP, Dragusin’s agent, Florin Manea, had plenty to say on the decision.

He said: “We were determined to go to Tottenham, but the offer came from Bayern. And we stopped in place. I was on my way to the airport. I said we have to think carefully and evaluate. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs… it was difficult to change our decision.

“There was more money from Bayern, but he said this is the right step in his career. We stayed up all night to think… to see what the pluses and minuses are. Both Napoli and AC Milan wanted him. But he dreamed of playing in the Premier League from a young age.

“He didn’t choose the money… It is to be appreciated that he chose his career before money. At one point, Tottenham was a bit far from what Genoa wanted, but I said that if the clubs agree, we will choose Tottenham.

“Tottenham made great efforts. The owner and sporting director were very happy. They both worked very hard. They worked until 3 in the morning to reach an agreement.”
