‘Right under your nose’ – Sherwood urges Mourinho to play 24-year-old

Tim Sherwood believes that Dele Alli could be the answer to Tottenham’s recent troubles in front of goal and urged Jose Mourinho to play the midfielder.

Dele has not started a Premier League game since the opening day fixture against Everton, with most of his minutes this season coming in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions (transfermarkt.com).

The midfielder was not in Tottenham’s matchday squads for the clashes against Wycombe, Liverpool or Brighton, with Mourinho claiming that he is out with an injury.

The England international had been heavily linked with a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain over the past few weeks but he instead ended up remaining in North London.

Jose Mourinho’s men have looked quite agricultural in attack without Harry Kane over the past two matches as they struggled to create too many clear cut chances against either Liverpool or Brighton.

Sherwood believes that Dele is exactly the sort of player the Lilywhites need to help solve their issues in finding the back of the net.

The former Tottenham interim boss told Sky Sports News (12:47 pm, January 30, 2021): “Dare I say it, would Dele Alli get back in? You need to find goals.

“You find goals from midfield from someone who has regularly scored 10+ in the Premier League, and that is Dele Alli.

“You have got someone right under your nose there who can score goals.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If reports are to be believed, Jose Mourinho was more than happy to allow Dele Alli to join PSG on loan and it was only Daniel Levy who stopped the deal from going through. So, I suspect that the Spurs boss sees Alli as being surplus to requirement and I doubt if the midfielder’s situation will change drastically.
