Rio Ferdinand admits player would ‘100 percent’ improve Tottenham

Rio Ferdinand believes that Philippe Coutinho would be a great signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder during the summer transfer window only for a switch to fail to materialise (talkSPORT) only for the Brazilian to join German giants Bayern Munich on a season long loan.

Coutinho headed to the Nou Camp from Liverpool in 2018 and failed to replicate the form that earned him a big-money move to the La Liga side.

Ferdinand claimed that the 27-year-old would prove to be a shrewd addition to Jose Mourinho’s side with his creative flair allowing the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dele Alli to benefit in front of goal.

Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal were reported to have made an enquiry over Coutinho’s availability (Mirror) with Ferdinand struggling to understand why when they already have Mesut Ozil.

The former Manchester United defender held an Instagram Q&A on Monday and said as quoted by The Sun: “Coming into the Premier League to the right team would be a saviour for him, he needs that.

“I think he would be a great addition to Spurs’ squad. Arsenal he would definitely improve them, but where does he play in their system?

“I would have said Man Utd before Bruno Fernandes turned up, but not now. Would he improve Spurs?

“Yes he would, 100 percent. People like Kane, Dele, Son etc. all feed off someone like him.
