Rio Ferdinand has praised the work which Roberto Martinez is currently doing with the Belgian national side.
Martinez guided Belgium to the top of Group B in Euro 2020 having won each of their three matches against Denmark, Finland and Russia.
The Spaniard has been linked with the vacant managerial position at Tottenham Hotspur and played down speculation about his future in May by insisting that his full focus was on the job in hand at this summer’s tournament (Football.London).
Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb, claimed last week that there is still a chance that Martinez could still be in with the chance of taking over in North London.
Ferdinand admitted that he has been left impressed with the style of football that Belgium have been playing while also acknowledging the 47-year-old’s planning and tactics.
The former Manchester United defender told Match of the Day: “They have done in a way in which their fans and their people will be enjoying,” said Ferdinand. “I think they have played some really good football.
“With Martinez, I think he’s meticulous. The attention to detail. Tactically, he has got the set-up really well.
“And he has got all his attacking and creative players all ready and in-form.”
Spurs fans have seen their club linked with Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Erik ten Hag, whether they would accept Martinez with open arms at this stage remains to be seen given his disappointing spell at Everton.
