Rio Ferdinand reveals who he thinks will finish higher, Tottenham or Arsenal

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to finish third in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal this season.

Tottenham started their season with an impressive 4-1 win against Southampton last weekend. The Gunners battled it out with a reinvigorated Crystal Palace side under Patrick Vieira and got three points over the line through a 2-0 victory on the road despite the hosts’ constant pressure.

The three-goal difference has helped Spurs to the top spot in the league standings, with their bitter rivals holding third place just behind newly promoted Bournemouth, who got a 2-0 win over Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

Antonio Conte’s team will face Chelsea next in an away clash while Mikel Arteta’s club will try their chances against Leicester City at Emirates.

Both matches should be a step up in terms of the difficulty involved, which could determine who gains the upper hand in the opening stretch of this campaign.

Ferdinand thinks that Manchester City will retain the title with Liverpool finishing in second place as they did last season. The ex-England international added that Conte’s side will be third, with the rest of the Big 6 teams competing for the remaining Champions League spot.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “My top four – I said City, Liverpool, Spurs, and I think it’s going to be a shootout between Arsenal, Chelsea and United.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Conte has a knack for getting the best out of his teams to exceed expectations in domestic competitions, which is evident from his previous tenures. As such, backing his Tottenham side to get a third-place finish is understandable, especially after accounting for the reinforcements they have made so far this summer.

Chelsea and Man United have several issues to deal with, so they may not be a threat in this campaign. Arteta’s club could pose a stern challenge as they have addressed their lack of depth with solid additions, which caused them to falter several times last season.
