Rio Ferdinand tips Harry Kane to pick up two awards this season at Tottenham

Ex-England international Rio Ferdinand strongly believes that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will have a huge season this time around, even tipping him to win the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.

Kane reportedly pushed for a move to Manchester City last year, but a transfer failed to materialise in the end (Sky Sports).

He had a disappointing run of form for Tottenham under Nuno Espirito Santo following that incident until Antonio Conte came in to turn things around for the better.

The England skipper got back to his best under Conte, having scored 20 goals and assisted nine times from 36 matches across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Kane also arguably improved his overall game to reach new heights by becoming more aware of when to drop deep and when to be a presence in the box.

The 29-year-old played a major role in helping Spurs to qualify for this campaign’s Champions League, and Ferdinand thinks Kane will continue his form into the new season and win both the Premier League Golden Boot and the Player of the Year awards.

Ferdinand told William Hill: “Harry Kane will win the Golden Boot this season. I think the (Antonio) Conte effect and how fit he gets his teams will help him.

“Harry Kane normally never scores in August but I think he might change that this season with the impact of a full pre-season under Conte. You saw the impact it had on Romelu Lukaku under Conte at Inter Milan in Serie A.

“Harry looked sharp in pre-season and I just feel that he’s got something to prove again this season.

“Even though he’s been a phenomenal player for so many years, I still think there’s something in him where he’s thinking, ‘I didn’t get to move to Manchester City last year. I’m going to prove to people this season why I didn’t go’.

Ferdinand added: “I think Kane will win Player of the Year this season too. I think for goals and assists, he’ll be right up there in those charts. And I think that Spurs will be closer to Manchester City and Liverpool this year, and he’ll have a big impact in that sense.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Kane will probably feel that this is his best chance to finally win silverware at his childhood club with a world-class manager like Conte at the helm.

Not to mention, the board have done their part by bringing in signings which have raised the team’s strengths across all fronts, potentially instilling more confidence in the forward.

With the 2022 Qatar World Cup also drawing close, Kane has even more reasons to make this his best campaign to date.
