Rio Ferdinand warns Spurs that a ‘nightmare’ awaits them

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has warned Tottenham Hotspur that they face a ‘nightmare’ due to their involvement in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Spurs booked their place in the inaugural European tournament after they finished seventh in the Premier League table.

Tottenham looked to be set to finish outside of the European qualification spots with rivals Arsenal set to pip them until substitute Gareth Bale popped up with an 87th minute goal against Leicester City to secure the victory and the North London bragging rights.

Spurs will enter the Europa Conference League at the playoff round stage where they will face two-legged tie to reach the group stages of the competition.

The two fixtures will take place on August 19 and 26, with the group stages starting on September 16.

Tottenham’s first Premier League match of the 2021/22 campaign is currently scheduled for August 14th, just five days before their first taste of the new tournament.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: “For someone like Spurs, I think it’s a nightmare.”
