Rival PL manager admits he has been ‘a bit surprised’ by reaction to Postecoglou at Spurs

Speaking to the press ahead of his side’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, West Ham boss David Moyes discussed the positive impact Ange Postecoglou has had at Spurs, and insists he isn’t surprised at all by how good the Australian’s start has been.

Postecoglou was appointed Tottenham manager in the summer, charged with repairing the team after a disastrous 2022/23 campaign under Antonio Conte.

It’s safe to say there were some who doubted whether the Australian had the credentials to coach at the top level in the Premier League. However, it didn’t take long for those doubters to be proved wrong.

A ten-game unbeaten run at the start of the season left Spurs at the top of the Premier League table. Despite a run of three defeats recently, the attacking playing style of Postecoglou’s side has earned him many plaudits.

Indeed, securing a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City last weekend, while maintaining that adventurous approach to the game, has done Postecoglou’s reputation no harm.

Moyes is not surprised by Postecoglou success

In his pre-match press conference (via West Ham’s official website) ahead of the London derby between West Ham and Tottenham tonight, David Moyes insists no one should be surprised by how well Postecoglou has done at Spurs.

He said: “Ange Postecoglou has done remarkably well. Tottenham are a really, really good side and he’s made a big difference to what they’re doing and how they play. He’s made a big difference to the atmosphere there too.

“I’m a bit surprised really about how surprised everyone is at how well he’s doing, given how well he did at Celtic too. To manage Celtic is enormous, and there is a lot of pressure in that job, and Ange was able to cope and deal with that.”

I’ll admit I was apprehensive when Postecoglou was hired, simply because you never know if people will be able to step up from the Scottish league to the English game. I’m very happy I was wrong, though, and Postecoglou really is the best thing to happen to this club in a very long time.
