Rivaldo reveals Lucas Moura may have been a ‘little frustrated’ with recent snub

Former Brazil international Rivaldo believes that Lucas Moura will be frustrated not to have been called up for international duty.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger was overlooked by national boss Tite for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers at Venezuela, Colombia and Uruguay.

Lucas’s team-mate Emerson Royal got the nod as part of an eight man Premier League contingent who have headed back to South America to represent their country.

The 29-year-old, who has 39 caps to his name last featured for the Samba Boys in December 2018, when he played 45 minutes of a friendly against Saudi Arabia, which was his first appearance at international level since 2016 (transfermarkt).

Rivaldo, who played alongside Lucas at Sao Paulo has claimed that the Spurs man has not fulfilled the hope he had of returning to the Brazil set-up following his memorable hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax.

The 49-year-old told Betfair: “Moura was not called up for Brazilian national team again and he might be a little frustrated with that”,

“Since that magical night in Amsterdam in 2019, when he scored a hat-trick against Ajax in the Champions League in 2019, he had greater expectations about playing more regularly for his club and national team.

“That hasn’t happened but he is still a great player and an excellent person that I had the opportunity to play with at Sao Paulo FC.”

Lucas has been one of Tottenham’s brightest performers this season with his energy and pressing having been a highlight in some of the disappointing displays witnessed under Nuno.

At 29, the international scene may have unfortunately sailed for Lucas, however, he still has plenty to offer at club level.
