Robbie Keane has urged Tottenham Hotspur to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Tielemans has gone from strength to strength since moving to Leicester from Monaco in the January of 2019 on an initial loan deal before sealing a permanent transfer the subsequent summer.
The Belgian international has blossomed into one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League over the last two years but his form has dipped a little this campaign in what is proving to be a difficult season for Brendan Rodgers’ men, who are sitting 11th in the table.
90 min revealed a few days ago that Tielemans has decided he will not be extending his current contract at the King Power Stadium which runs out in 2023.
The report added that the Foxes could thus be forced to cash in on the player at the end of the season, with Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Manchester United and Newcastle showing interest.
Keane believes Tielemans fits the bill of what Spurs need in the middle of the park, insisting that the 24-year-old could help Antonio Conte’s men control games better.
The former Spurs striker told Optus Sport: “Defensively, they’re (Spurs) poor. They need to bring in a couple of players there.

“We spoke about Tielemans, a midfield player, they could do with someone like him in the middle of the park who is going to dominate possession.”

Tielemans’ form this season has left a lot to be desired but that might well have to do with the midfielder’s keenness to leave Leicester in search of a new challenge.
We can certainly do a lot worse than the 24-year-old when it comes to strengthening the midfielder department, given that the Foxes star would come with Premier League experience and would be able to fit in straight away.
