Another Tottenham player has booked his place at the 2026 World Cup after a remarkable turnaround in form under Roberto De Zerbi.
The more players a club has representing their countries at the World Cup, the better it is both financially and from a prestige perspective.
SpursWeb previously reported that FIFA’s compensation scheme for the 2026 World Cup is expected to provide clubs with a daily payment for every player involved in the tournament. For Tottenham, that figure could reportedly reach around £3 million depending on how long their players remain in the competition.
While that may not be a game-changing amount financially, World Cup call-ups always reflect positively on the clubs those players represent.
That is particularly impressive for Tottenham considering how narrowly they avoided relegation this season. Not many would have expected a side that finished just two points above the drop zone to have so many players heading to football’s biggest tournament.

Rodrigo Bentancur completes Tottenham’s World Cup contingent
After Lucas Bergvall (Sweden), Kevin Danso (Austria), Pedro Porro (Spain), Djed Spence (England), Micky Van de Ven (Netherlands), Cristian Romero (Argentina), Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal) and Luka Vuskovic (Croatia), Tottenham have now received their ninth and final World Cup call-up.
Rodrigo Bentancur has been included in Uruguay’s squad after Marcelo Bielsa named his final group for the tournament.
The midfielder has endured a difficult few years since suffering his serious knee injury during the 2022/23 season. Despite showing flashes of his quality, Bentancur never quite managed to rediscover the level he consistently produced under Antonio Conte.
In fact, there were genuine fears earlier this year that he could miss out on the World Cup altogether after injury problems saw him left out of Uruguay’s pre-tournament friendlies.
However, Bentancur’s form improved dramatically following Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival. The 28-year-old became one of Tottenham’s most important players during the run-in, helping steer the club away from relegation while finally looking like the midfielder supporters fell in love with under Conte.
If he can carry that momentum into the World Cup, Uruguay’s midfield alongside Federico Valverde could be one to watch.
Roberto De Zerbi has transformed Rodrigo Bentancur’s Tottenham future
Before De Zerbi arrived, Bentancur’s future in North London looked far from secure. A combination of injuries and inconsistent performances had led many supporters to question whether the midfielder still had a long-term future at the club, with some even expecting Tottenham to listen to offers this summer.
However, De Zerbi’s impact on the Uruguayan has been remarkable given Bentancur became one of Spurs’ most reliable performers during the final weeks of the campaign.
The Italian head coach has already made it clear that Bentancur is among the players he wants to keep as part of his plans moving forward, which perhaps explains why there has been virtually no transfer noise surrounding the midfielder in recent weeks.
With Bentancur under contract until 2030 and Tottenham expected to strengthen further in midfield this summer, supporters have every reason to be excited about what could come next under De Zerbi.
