Roberto De Zerbi has revealed whether Guglielmo Vicario will return to the starting Tottenham line-up over Antonin Kinsky when he is fit.

Vicario has missed all of Tottenham’s first four matches under De Zerbi after undergoing a hernia operation, and the Spurs goalkeeper is not expected to be fit to face Leeds either.

In the absence of the Italian, Kinsky has showcased his quality, proving extremely reliable between the sticks, and De Zerbi has showered praise on the 23-year-old Spurs star.

The Tottenham boss has now revealed whether the young Czech shot-stopper has done enough to displace the former Empoli man as his number one.

Roberto De Zerbi makes it clear that Guglielmo Vicario remains Tottenham’s number one

Vicario has come in for plenty of criticism for his errors this season, and it has been widely reported over recent months that the Tottenham number is set to return to the Serie A this summer.

Some may thus wonder if the Italy international has already played his final game for Spurs, but De Zerbi has now made it clear that the 29-year-old will be back in the starting lineup when he is fully fit.

When asked if Kinsky will continue as the first-choice for the remaining three games, De Zerbi told Football.London: “Vicario is still the first goalkeeper of Tottenham, because what Vicario showed this season is enough to consider him a top player for us. But we have to consider the physical condition, the period – how many games he missed and we will see when Vicario will be good.”

De Zerbi hails Antonin Kisnky for the character he has shown

Kisnky has admitted that the support from those around him and the fans have bene key in helping him bounce back from his huge setback at the Metropolitano Stadium, where he was taken off after just 17 minutes by Igor Tudor after making some poor mistakes.

De Zerbi has hailed the character that the young goalkeeper has shown in bouncing back from adversity in the manner he has over the past few weeks.

When asked about his experience of working with Kinsky, the 46-year-old said: “Big character, big personality. Great guy, great professional, and great goalkeeper. He’s playing very well, he has to stay with the focus and don’t take risks in any situation, but he is playing very well and is very important for us now.

“Of course, he is an example. Of course, what he felt after Madrid, for sure, was a big, big motivation for him. If you have pride, if you have dignity, if you have the right spirit, if you have character, and he has all these values.”
