Roberto Martinez responds to question about his future amid link to Tottenham

Roberto Martinez has played down speculation about his future amid speculation linking him with the vacant managerial post at Tottenham Hotspur.

Sky Sports reported last week that Tottenham were in talks with the Spaniard over the prospect of succeeding Jose Mourinho in North London.

Martinez has insisted that his focus is fully on Belgium ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

The 47-year-old is said to be ready to return to club football management for the first time since his dismissal as Everton boss in 2016.

Tottenham are yet to confirm a replacement for Mourinho, with Mauricio Pochettino having been heavily linked with a return to the club and has told Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to leave, with Real Madrid also keen on the Argentine (Goal).

PSG are expected to block any advances for Pochettino this summer (Independent) despite the fact that the former Spurs man has found the role in the French capital to be more problematic than he had envisaged.

Martinez told Football.London: “We have been looking forward to this tournament for three years,” he said. “Now is not the time to talk about my future.”
