Rodrigo Bentancur praises ‘incredible’ Spurs teammate

Rodrigo Bentancur has praised Dejan Kulusevsksi for his performance against Leeds United but the midfielder admitted that he did not think the Swede would pass him the ball for the matchwinner.

Bentancur’s quickfire brace late in the game on Saturday helped Spurs complete another dramatic comeback and emerge 4-3 winners.

That took the Uruguayan’s goal tally for the season to five across all competitions (Transfermarkt) and ensured that Antonio Conte’s men ended the first part of the campaign on a high.

The winning goal was brilliantly worked with Harry Kane playing a first-time pass for Kulusevski to run onto before the Swede took a defender out of the game and squared the ball to Bentancur to tap it into an empty net.

The 25-year-old expressed his delight at scoring the goal that clinched all three points for the Lilywhites.

The midfielder told Tottenham’s official Twitter account: “Well, just as well, I didn’t think Kulu (Kulusevski) was going to give it to me (the ball),” said Bentancur. “Then he passed to me at the last moment.

“The truth is the first ball and then the play from Kulu was incredible. I just finished it off, and honestly, I am really happy with the goal.”

Bentancur admitted that the game proved quite difficult game and praised the attitude and personality that the team showed to come from behind to win yet again.
