‘Rolls-Royce’ – Arsenal legend waxes lyrical Tottenham-linked right-wing-back

Martin Keown has showered praise on rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Djed Spence after the youngster put in another exception display on Sunday to help Nottingham Forest overcome Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round.

Tottenham strengthened their midfield department and their forward line in the January transfer window with the additions of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kuluseski.

However, Antonio Conte’s men were unable to bring in a new right wing-back after Adama Traore – their top target- snubbed their approach in favour of a move to Barcelona (The Athletic).

Another right-back rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar in January was Spence, who is having another exceptional campaign on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough (The Northern Echo).

According to 90 min, the Lilywhites even saw a late £12m offer for the 21-year-old turned down by Boro.

Spence showed yet again on Sunday why there is so much excitement around him as Leicester struggled to cope with his overlaps.

The youngster put the icing on the cake for Forest, netting their fourth goal in their 4-1 demolition of the Foxes.

Keown told BBC Sport about Spence’s display against Brendan Rodgers’ side: “He’s too quick for everybody. Everything is going Forest’s way.

“Djed Spence has really impressed me. He’s on his loan from Middlesbrough. He’s been sent away to clear his head and he’s clearly doing that. He’s like a Rolls-Royce.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Although Spence is an outstanding talent, I would prefer for us to go for Tariq Lamptey over the Boro starlet. Although one can argue that Spence might have a higher ceiling than Lamptey, the Brighton man would represent less of a risk as he comes with Premier League experience, and he would improve our starting eleven straight away.
