Romano explains why Kane contract situation is ‘not dangerous’ for Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham Hotspur are not alarmed by Harry Kane’s contract situation as the striker is in no rush to leave the club at the moment.

Kane’s current contract with Spurs runs out at the end of next season (Transfermarkt), with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold predicting last week that the North London club will surely begin talks over a new deal with the striker before too long.

However, in the meantime, multiple reports have suggested that Bayern Munich remain keen on snapping up the England captain, with 90 min even suggesting recently that Tottenham are becoming ‘increasingly concerned’ about the Bundesliga giants’ interest in their talisman.

Romano has now suggested that Spurs do not need to panic about the situation as Kane is now a lot happier at the club than he was 12 months ago.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “A year ago, Kane wanted to leave, but now he’s happy at Tottenham under Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici.

“The Italians have changed the feeling under the club, so now Kane is in no rush to leave the club, the situation is completely different from a year ago.

“There’s still no agreement on a new contract, but it’s not a dangerous situation. Let’s see how it progresses in the next few months, it’s a work in progress, as is normal when you’re talking about a contract for a top player.”

Over recent weeks, reports from Italy have indicated that Tottenham might pursue a deal for Romelu Lukaku if Kane leaves (Tuttosport) but Romano has now poured cold water over those suggestions.

He also asserted that Bayern have not made any official contact with Spurs regarding a deal for the 29-year-old.

The journalist added: “There have been rumours involving Chelsea and a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku, as we know Lukaku was fantastic under Conte at Inter, but as of now there is absolutely nothing to this story. It’s just a rumour.

“There have also been many rumours about Bayern. It’s true that in 2023 that they will go for a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski. Kane is really appreciated by Bayern, but there have never been any conversations with Tottenham.

“At the moment, they are just fans of the player, but nothing is going on in terms of negotiations. The speculation is normal, but for the moment the main thing is that Kane is not desperate to leave, and Tottenham want to extend his contract.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Bayern are putting out feelers for Kane, just in case he decides against signing a new contract at Spurs but the Bundesliga club will not be the only club interested in the striker if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.

I believe Kane’s future will be tied to Conte’s and that the 29-year-old would be tempted to sign a new deal if the Italian extends his contract at Tottenham. The striker’s decision might also depend on whether the club show signs of competition for honours this season.
