Romano explains why Nagelsmann ‘is not prepared’ to advance talks with Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that Julian Nagelsmann is not prepared to advance talks with Tottenham any further until the North London club have a director of football in place.

Romano states that Nagelsmann remains at the very top of Spurs’ wishlist as the club are ‘convinced’ that he is the best man to build a long-term project at the club.

It is explained that the Spurs hierarchy view the German as the man to instil a change in identity in N17, similar to what Erik Ten Hag has done at Manchester United.

While striking an agreement with Bayern Munich is not thought to be an issue, it is said that the negotiations between Nagelsmann’s entourage and Tottenham are now on ‘standby’.

This is because the 35-year-old is ‘not prepared to advance to the final stage of the negotiations’ with the Premier League club until he has some clarity on who replaces Fabio Paratici at the helm.

Romano suggests that talks between the parties might remain frozen until Tottenham finalise a sporting director, which is why the ball is now in Daniel Levy’s court.

The journalist adds that while Spurs have also spoken to Vincent Kompany and ‘appreciate’ both Luis Enqieu and Xabi Alonso, there is ‘nothing advanced’ with those candidates as of now.

It appears as if Tottenham want to preserve with Nagelsmann before they engage in concrete discussions with other candidates.

If we end up missing out on Nagelsmann because of not having a sporting director in place, it would not reflect well on Levy, given that there had been a cloud hanging over Paratici’s future for a long time.
