Romano reveals ‘very good chance’ Spurs-linked star will leave on a free

Fabrizio Romano has said there is ‘a very good chance’ that rumoured Tottenham target Evan Ndicka leaves on a free transfer when his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt runs our next summer.

It was reported during the summer transfer window that Tottenham were the front-runners to snap up Ndicka (Foot Mercato) but the centre-back stayed put at Deutsche Bank Park.

The 23-year-old has made a fine start to the season, impressing both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, including in Frankfurt’s two group stage matches against Spurs.

However, the Frenchman’s future remains up in the air, with his contract with the German club about to run out at the end of the current season (Transfermarkt).

Calciomercato.it claimed last week that Frankfurt are ready to sell Ndicka for a cut-price fee in January in order to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.

The report stated that the Bundesliga club could sell the defender for a fee in the region of €8m-€9m (£7m-£7.8m) when the transfer window reopens, with Juventus, AC Milan and Roma alleged to have their eye on the player.

Romano has now provided an update on Ndicka’s future, explaining that ‘many clubs’ are exploring his situation.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “There’s a very good chance for Ndicka to leave on a free. Many clubs – not just in England – are exploring the situation.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndicka is at his best on the left side of a back three, which makes him a very good fit for Conte’s system. I fully expect Tottenham to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back next summer but I suspect that Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol will be the Italian’s top choices.
