Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Leicester City could steal a march on both Tottenham and Chelsea in the race for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as the two London clubs have to fill their managerial vacancies first.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported back in February that Mamardashvili was one of four names on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Hugo Lloris, alongside Brentford’s David Raya, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
A couple of days ago, 90 min claimed that Spurs might face competition from several of their Premier League rivals for the Valencia star’s signature, adding that Leicester hold ‘the strongest interest’ in the goalkeeper.
The publication asserted that the Georgian international is keen to leave the Mestalla, with the Spanish club said to value him at around £30m.
Romano has now revealed that the Foxes have made the first steps towards signing Mamardashvili, having already spoken to the 22-year-old’s agent regarding a switch to the King Power Stadium.
The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Leicester have approached Giorgi Mamardashvili by meeting his agent a few days ago, but in this case, it depends on their future in the Premier League.
“I’m told Tottenham and Chelsea are informed on the conditions of the deal but there’s no time to enter into advanced talks as both clubs don’t know who their new coach will be yet, and that’s a crucial step before making a decision on goalkeepers.”

Unless Spurs sort out their managerial and director of football situation soon, they risk falling behind in the race for several of their transfer targets.
Not too many plays would be too keen to come to the club without any clarity on which manager they would be playing under.
