Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario praised Richarlison for his performances at the World Cup, telling the Tottenham man that he is inspiring the next generation of superstars with his displays.

Richarlison has been on fire in front of goal for much of the calendar year and he has continued that form in Qatar, having arguably been the Selecao’s best player in the tournament so far.

The Tottenham man has not only shown his fighting spirit and tenacity but he has also been involved in two breathtaking goals (out of his tally of three) that have been reminiscent of ones scored by past Brazilian legends.

Ronaldo, who played a pivotal role in the South American nation’s last World Cup triumph in 2022, met the current Brazilian number nine after their round of 16 clash against South Korea.

He had huge words of encouragement for the Spurs star, telling him to bring the trophy home after 20 years.

The 46-year-old told Richarlison on his YouTube channel Ronaldo TV: “Wow, You are great. That’s three matches played, and now three more to go (to win the World Cup).

“What I did by inspiring you. It’s now your turn to inspire and you are inspiring millions of Brazilians and millions of kids with your art, your goals, your joy to play, your spontaneity, with your feelings. You are a pride to Brazil.

“It was a beautiful goal (against South Korea) – you are playing centre-forward and you are the out-and-out forward that we haven’t seen for a while. Score a lot more goals. Go for it and bring the sixth World Cup home.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is almost unthinkable for a nation of Brazil’s repute to go without a World Cup title for two decades. So, this squad will write their names in the history books if they can bring the title back to the country after such a long wait. So, Ricahrlison’s popularity in Brazil could rival that of the likes of Cafu, Ronaldo and Rivaldo if he can take the Selecao all the way.
