‘Talented boy’ – Roy Keane approves of Tottenham’s piece of summer business

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has described James Maddison as being a ‘good fit’ for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 27-year-old swapped relegated Leicester City for North London in a £40million deal back in June of last year, a piece of business which is proving to be very good value (Sky Sports).

Maddison had a bright start to life at Spurs, however, the ankle injury he suffered in the defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November which kept him out until late January.

The England international has taken a while to start to get back to his early-season level but was impressive, especially in the second half of Tottenham’s 4-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday in which he scored the first goal, courtesy of a pin-point cross from Pape Matar Sarr.

Roy Keane believes James Maddison is a good fit for Tottenham

Keane, who was on punditry duty for Sky Sports prior to Tottenham’s match at Villa Park was asked about Maddison’s move to the North Londoners.

He said: “He’s a good fit for Spurs. His stats over the years are very good. He’s had injuries the last few months and it’s taken a little bit longer to get up to speed.

“He’s a talented boy and looks like a bit of a personality. I like the way he’s not settling for Spurs to be fourth or fifth, he wants to get into the Champions League and win a cup.”

Tottenham have been crying out for a creative spark since the days of Christian Eriksen and it had been a missing cog in the team in recent years until the arrival of Maddison.

He has adapted well to life in N17, becoming a vice-captain and being a key part of Tottenham’s first team squad under Ange Postecoglou.
