Roy Keane has opined that even though James Maddison is a good player, the Tottenham midfielder is overrated by many.
Maddison had been one of the few shining lights in what was a poor Leicester City side in his final two seasons at the King Power Stadium, with Tottenham snapping up the 27-year-old last summer following the Foxes’ relegation.
While the signing was seen at the time as a decent coup for Spurs, the attacking midfielder has far exceeded expectations with the start he made to his career in North London, arguably being the best player across the Premier League for the first few months of the season until his injury.
The England international appears to have taken his game to the next level, now that he is surrounded by better players and playing in a system that seems to suit him to a tee.
Tottenham fans are now waiting with bated breath to see Maddison back on the pitch, with reports indicating that the midfielder could be fit to play in the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Manchester City (The Telegraph).

However, Keane is not convinced that the Spurs vice-captain’s return would make as big a difference as some people think.

The Man Utd legend told Stick to Football podcast about Maddison: “I think he is a good player. Not as good as everyone is making out. I like him, I think he’s a good player, but I don’t think he’s like De Bruyne coming back for them.”

One can make the case that Maddison is as important to the Spurs side as De Bruyne is to the Man City side as the 27-year-old can unlock defences in a way that no other player in the Tottenham squad can, given his technical quality and vision.
