Rumour Mill: The £63 Million Man That Got Away?

Borussia Dortmund star-Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that in 2012, the Gabonese international came close to signing for Spurs before his eventual move to Germany.

The forward, who’s scored over 100 goals for Dortmund over the course of his 4-year stay at the club, recently revealed that he came to North London 5 years ago to discuss a potential move.

However, the transfer ultimately fell through as AVB’s Tottenham were never to reopen their interest in the 28 year old, who at the time played for French outfit Saint-Etienne.

“I was at Tottenham back then,” He explained, in an interview with German outlet Bild. “Had a tour of the stadium and the training ground.

“We held talks, but after that nobody contacted me again.”

The talented striker even went on to admit that he’s held a slight grudge against the North-London side ever since, claiming that the experience gave him “extra motivation” to play well against Spurs.

Aubameyang got his wish during 2015-16’s Europa League competition, in which Borussia Dortmund won both home and away against Tottenham, with the striker netting 3 times in a 5-1 aggregate round of 16 victory for BVB.

The forward did not however get the same luck on Wednesday night when two seemingly valid goals were cruelly chalked off for Aubameyang in a 3-1 defeat at Wembley, Tottenham’s first win at the national stadium this season.

During the Summer, The Daily Mail reported that Borussia Dortmund valued the player at £63 million, but I don’t mind. We have Harry Kane.
