Rumour: Spurs to pay big money for Cahill

Tottenham have been linked with a huge £20 million bid for Bolton’s Gary Cahill in January, in a bid to ease the club’s defensive crisis.

Cahill has made an impressive start to the campaign with Bolton, also chipping in with two goals for the Premiership strugglers.

Spurs have had issues in their defence this season, with Ledley King a perennial doubt, as well as long term injuries to Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson. Sebastian Bassong was signed in the summer to ease these problems, but The People believes that Redkanpp will opt for further defensive reinforcements in the next transfer window.

Cahill, who has also been linked with a move to Juventus, has been called into Fabio Capello’s England squad recently, but is yet to make his international debut.

  1. Hi wouldent buy a bucket of sand of bolton or a few other clubs the reason will remain in my head lets just say they play a bit faster than they should .And davies is a fine example of muscle abuse he whas shite till he went to big sams bolton and hit the gym .

  2. We call them Juice monkeys……I agree but it’s not just Bolton, every professional sportsman does it, whether they admit it or don’t they are all using some type of substances, otherwise it’s physically impossible to give the human body that type of weekly stress without it taking effect without substances. It’s a well known fact…..

  3. Someone please explain the logic of potentially spending £20m on a central defender who is not an improvement on our preferred defensive partnership. I do understand that the two cannot play due to injury but spending an obscene amount of money on a player or players who are no better than Dawson and Bassong does not make sense. The same can be said about Harry’s interest in Anton Ferdinand. He wasn’t worth £8m when Sunderland bought him from the Spammers and now he can’t even get into the side. Bruce even bought another defender so that speaks volumes. Ferdinand is no where near the calibre of his brother and just because they are from the same gene pool does not mean it potentially could happen. It is safe to say that Harry scouting ability does not stretch to defenders and at his previous clubs he has had the luxury of having solid defenders already there.

Again, people wonder why manager look to mainland Europe or other continents for players. The value rate of British players in the Premiership isn’t in the realm of understanding. Gary Megson may value Cahill higher than Lescott but that is his opinion and just because he got called up to the England squad does not mean his value all of a sudden skyrockets. He was only called up because there were injuries and Capello could not call up our Ledley King. So what does that tell you? Capello would rather look at a player who can barely play weekly over a player who plays every match.

  4. Megson will have been sacked by January, Bolton will be either in the bottom three or just a result from safety, and looking to unload players in an attempt to bring in some young Brazilians. If we want him it’ll be 8 mil. However, as teh Trunk says, Levy will come in at 2.5, get knocked back, and raise it to 15.

  5. I would rather buy Tim Cahill and play him in defence! Come on I thought the days had gone where we spent zillions on average players. Upson is a good bet, he has bags of experience, can lead the line and in world cup year is a decent squad player for England. But dont expect £8 million to do the trick to get him. Perhaps this is the last sounding call for King to finally call it a day or to get rid of Woodgate, the treatment tables best friend.
