New Spurs boss Jose Mourinho enjoyed a winning start to his Tottenham career after emerging as 3-2 victors against West Ham yesterday afternoon.

The Portuguese manager, who is returning to the top flight management after almost a year out of the game, insisted that he was delighted with the team’s performance on Saturday (BT Sport).

Mourinho’s compatriot Ricardo Pereira has now spoken of his delight at the special one being back in the Premier League.

The Leicester City right back, who has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past, has been one of the stand out full-backs in the league this season.

Brendan Rodgers’s side are currently sitting pretty at second in the table and Pereira has been one of their best players of the campaign to date.

The Portuguese international has now expressed his delight at Mourinho’s return to the Premier League and confidently predicted that he would be a success at Tottenham.

Speaking to the Record, Pereira said, “He’s been missed. He’s one of the best coaches in the world.

“It’s always good for us Portuguese people to get back to work here in England. He’s one of the big names in Portuguese football.

“He’ll be able to show his value again, he’ll be back in the spotlight. It’s more of a challenge for him. The league is very balanced. The points difference between 14th and 5th place is quite short.

“In addition, there’s a lot of competition still to come. Therefore, he has more than enough time and conditions to succeed.”

Pereira has been one of the stand out full backs in the league for the last year. Given that right back seems to be one of Tottenham’s primary problems, the club could do a lot worse than pursuing a deal for him in January. It remains to be seen if Mourinho will continue to trust in Aurier.
