Rumoured Spurs target opens up on desire to play at the ‘highest level’

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Eberechi Eze who is reported to be a target for Tottenham this summer has revealed his desire to play at the highest level.

Eze has been one of the standout players in the Championship this season having netted an impressive twelve goals and provided eight assists in all competitions (transfermarkt).

He has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the last few weeks, with reports claiming QPR are ready to sell him for around £20million (The Sun).

QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand has previously admitted that the club may have no choice but to let Eze go if a potential suitor meets their asking price for him in the summer (Beautiful Game Podcast via The Standard).

The 21-year-old has now opened up on how he has been able to deal with the attention that his performances this season have attracted.

He told Sky Sports: “I think last season was such a big learning point for me because I’ve learned to deal with stuff like this (media attention). Because it was my first season, I didn’t exactly know how to handle it.

“I’d be looking into stuff and I could feel it affecting my game and I wasn’t maybe as focused as I should’ve been.

“This season, of course, I’m seeing the stuff that is in front of me but I’m not allowing it to affect what I’m doing.

“The most important thing is what I’m doing on the pitch and as long as I continue to focus on that, everything else will fall into place. I want to play at the highest level.”

The QPR star also revealed that he was really enjoying life at the Championship club and isn’t in a hurry to leave.

Eze added: “Honestly, it’s so good playing for QPR because I enjoy going in every day and that’s how you play the best football in your career.

“You’re free in the mind, you’re not worried going in, you’re not anxious or anything like that – you feel confident to do your job.

“We’ve got Ilias [Chair], Bright [Osayi-Samuel], me, Mide [Shodipo]; we’ve got young players in the team that are very good players, pushing on to do greater things. It’s just good to be in and around them and to work with such good people.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect QPR to drop their asking price for Eze this window given that there is unlikely to be a lot of money thrown around this summer. The speculation linking us with the 21-year-old has died off in recent weeks which suggests that Spurs might have reconsidered their plans to move for him due to the financial impact of the coronavirus.
