Rumoured Spurs target rules out chances of leaving club on a free transfer

Ajax wonderkid Ryan Gravenberch, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has ruled out the prospect of leaving the Eredivisie giants on a free transfer.

Gravenberch has won several admirers since establishing himself in Ajax’s starting eleven last season and the central midfielder has even won multiple caps for the senior Netherlands side.

The teenager, who is comfortable playing as a pivot in front of the back four as well as further forward, has been likened to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for his physical and technical attributes (Sport Witness).

Fichajes.net previously revealed that Tottenham were eyeing a move for the Ajax youth product but added that the North Londoners were facing competition from the likes of Juventus, Chelsea, Barcelona and Arsenal for the midfielder’s signature.

The 19-year-old’s current contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena expires in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt), which means that he will only have 12 months left on his deal in the summer.

While Gravenberch has not ruled out leaving Ajax in the future, he admitted that he wants his boyhood club to get a transfer fee for him.

He told Dutch publication AD (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano): “I don’t know if I will leave in the summer.

“What I do know for sure is that I won’t leave Ajax if they don’t get anything back. I can’t leave on a free transfer. This won’t happen.”

Ajax would be getting a fee for Gravenberch if he left this summer but it would likely be a cut-price deal given that he will just have a year left on his contract. Perhaps, the youngster is suggesting that he will sign a new contract with the Eredivisie giants so that the club can get a sizable fee for him.
