Rumoured Spurs target says he will have new contract talks in ‘coming days’

Rumoured Tottenham target Yann Sommer has revealed that he will hold talks with Borussia Monchengladbach regarding a new contract over the next few days.

Lloris turned 36 earlier this week and the Frenchman’s performance levels this season have dropped a little from his usual high standards.

Tottenham are thought to be looking to replace the Frenchman next summer, with reports over recent weeks revealing that Sommer is one of the names on the North London club’s radar (GiveMeSport).

The Switzerland international’s current deal at Borussia Park runs out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), which means Spurs would be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the goalkeeper from next month.

Antonio Conte’s men are not the only club who are thought to be after Sommer, with Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reporting last week that Bayern Munich have identified the 34-year-old as their top target to replace Manuel Neuer if they cannot get Alexander Nubel back from Monaco.

However, Sommer has now hinted that he is open to extending his stay at Gladbach.

The goalkeeper told the Bundesliga club’s official website: “I had a couple of quiet days with the family in Switzerland, was able to process the World Cup and am pleased that we are now getting going again.

“With regards to my contract situation and my future, there were already open conversations with the club before the World Cup. We will resume these in the coming days as agreed.”

I doubt Sommer would be anywhere near the top of Conte’s wishlist to replace Lloris as the Swiss international would be a short-term option, given his age. The likes of Jordan Pickford, Illan Meslier and Robert Sanchez would be much more appealing options for Spurs.
