Rumoured Spurs target’s agent confirms midfielder is set to leave

Rumoured Spurs target Baptiste Santamaria will be allowed to leave Angers when the transfer market opens in the summer, according to the midfielder’s agent.

Santamaria has arguably been the most consistent defensive midfielder in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons.

The Express reported at the start of the month that Tottenham had sent their scouts to watch the Frenchman on multiple occasions this season.

Area Napoli reported last month that the Premier League is Santamaria’s prefered destination whilst also claiming that he will be available this summer for a fee of around £13million.

The Frenchman’s agent Yves Le Mee has now revealed that the Ligue 1 club’s hierarchy have agreed to allow the 25-year-old to leave at the end of the season.

However, he suggested that the Serie A would be Santamaria’s ideal destination rather than the Premier League.

When asked about the midfielder’s future, Le Mee told Si Gonfia La Rete on Radio Marte (28 April, 6.30pm): “In the next transfer market, we have the word of the (Angers) president that we will be allowed to leave,”

“I hope Santamaria can move to Italy because it is the most difficult championship in which he can grow the most. Baptiste, however, has a lot of interest (elsewhere), with the most important clubs in France setting their sights on him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A defensive midfielder should certainly be on the forefront of our priorities this summer. An aggressive ball-winner in midfield who can mop up in front of the back four is exactly what we’ve been lacking. While Santamaria would fit the bill, I would hope that we can aim higher and pursue some like Geoffrey Kondogbia.
