Rumoured Tottenham target confirms he will be staying with Ligue 1 club

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, who has been linked with a potential move to Tottenham, has admitted that he will remain at AS Monaco next season.

Nubel has only made a handful of appearances for Bayern since his move from Schalke in the summer of 2020.

The 25-year-old, who served as backup to Manuel Neuer last season, joined AS Monaco on a two-year loan last summer, and he has enjoyed an impressive campaign between the sticks for the Ligue 1 club so far.

Kicker reported back in February that Bayern have the option of ending Nubel’s loan spell at Monaco prematurely at the end of the current season.

The report added that the Bundesliga giants could sell the goalkeeper, with Spurs alleged to have shown interest in signing him in the summer.

However, Nubel has now admitted that he will remain at the Ligue 1 club next season and see out his two-year loan agreement.

He told Bild: “The decision is that I will play for AS Monaco next season. My loan contract here is two years. If Bayern have something else in mind, we have to talk about it but for me, it’s not an issue at the moment.”

It appears clear that Lloris is going to continue as the number one at least for next season. Based on recent reports (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold), it also looks likely that Sam Johnstone will join as Hugo’s understudy. So, the Lilywhites are not likely to be in the market for any other goalkeeping options this summer.
