Tottenham Hotspur haven’t got off to the best start so far this season, with a loss to Newcastle United at home standing out as the worst performance.
Spurs also grabbed a point away to Man City, but were extremely lucky to do so, and managed to come up with a late flurry to beat Aston Villa on opening day after finding themselves behind in the first half.
It has been far from the free-flowing, energetic, and physical performances we associate with a Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham side over the past five years.
The Argentine has decided to mix things up a bit at the start of this season, dropping first-team stars such as Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen to the bench on multiple occasions.
Vertonghen and Alderweireld have partnered each other in the heart of the Spurs defence for years now, but Toby has been given a new partner in Davinson Sanchez in recent weeks.
Rumours are now spreading online that Vertonghen has allegedly been involved in a training ground disagreement after he appeared with a black eye at the weekend.

Twitter is certainly in overdrive with rumours.
This is purely speculation rather than a claim and is not presented as fact. Any speculation regarding the rumour is guesswork from fans.
Jan Vertonghen turning up to the Newcastle game with a black eye. Further evidence pointing towards that there has been a physical altercation between the two, I can’t believe Jan is the only one willing to make a stand against this. pic.twitter.com/Qd60X9tvWk

Something’s definitely going on behind the scenes here. Vertonghen’s sitting there with a black eye. Possibly had a punch up with one of his team mates. Or the manager. #TOTNEW

Jan Vertonghen doesn’t magically get a black eye either.

Vertonghen has two young kids. He probably has a black eye because one threw a toy at his face, not because him and Pochettino punched it out on the training ground?

Opinion
Those who have played football will admit that an altercation on the training pitch between two players is nothing new and is something which happens every season. If this has been the case at Hotspur Way, it should not be read into as a serious matter.
Veronghen for whatever reason is currently out of the side and must prove himself to Pochettino that he should be back in the starting eleven.
