‘Run out of steam’ – French pundit blasts form of Spurs’ Tanguy Ndombele

Nicolas Puydebois has claimed Tanguy Ndombele has already ‘run out of steam’ at Lyon just a handful of games into his loan spell from Tottenham.

Ndombele was part of an exodus at Spurs in January and found himself on the way back to the club he departed for £54 million in 2019 (BBC Sport).

He has made six appearances for Lyon since his return, but his display in the Ligue 1 side’s most recent fixture left a lot to be desired (TransferMarkt).

Les Dogues suffered a heavy 4-2 defeat at home to Rennes last weekend and found themselves in a 4-0 hole within just 50 minutes.

Ndombele lasted 79 minutes of the encounter before being substituted by Peter Bosz, but former Lyon man Puydebois believes the 25-year-old may have already hit his limit at the club.

He told OL Play via Jeunes Footeux: “Tanguy Ndombélé. We will judge him in the long term. It is clear he had a very good first match but since then he has run out of steam.

“We see him less, he brings much less. I am a little disappointed by his contribution.”

Ndombele has done pretty well at Lyon in all fairness and this one performance may just be a blip in his loan spell. As for Spurs, they will be hoping that he will be able to bounce back from this to end the season on a strong note, before evaluating his future in the summer.
