Ryan Mason responds on whether he wants the Spurs job on a permanent basis

Ryan Mason has thrown his hat into the ring to be considered to become Tottenham Hotspur’s head coach on a permanent basis.

Mason was appointed as acting head coach for the remaining six matches of the Premier League season after chairman Daniel Levy decided to part company with Cristian Stellini in the wake of the 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle United on Sunday.

It was confirmed yesterday that Mason’s backroom team will consist of Matt Wells, who returns to the club as Acting Assistant Head Coach, current Academy coach Nigel Gibbs takes up the role of Acting First Team Coach while First Team Goalkeeping Coach Perry Suckling and Set Piece guru Gianni Vio continue in their current roles.

The former Spurs midfielder has worked with both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte since returning to the club to begin his coaching career, picking up valuable experience from the pair.

The 31-year-old will tomorrow night lead his Spurs side for the first time since being given the responsibility when Manchester United are the visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mason told today’s press conference, as quoted by Charlie Eccleshare on Twitter: “I feel ready for the job. I know I’m ready.

“I’m absolutely ready for this (interim) situation. We handled it well two years ago. Ultimately from my point of view I feel fine, I feel ready.”
