Ryan Mason responds when asked where Spurs can finish this season

Ryan Mason has admitted that Tottenham are desperate to ensure that they have European football to look forward to next season.

Spurs’ chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were all but ended following their loss at Leeds United last weekend.

The North Londoners currently sit in seventh place in the table and the best they can now seemingly hope for is Europa League qualification.

The jury is out on whether Spurs fans would want another season of Europa League football or would rather spend a season out of Europe, allowing them to focus their concentrate on the Premier League.

However, Mason insisted that the players are only thinking about winning the three games they have left.

When asked about where the club could finish this season, the interim Spurs boss told Football.London: “The target, and I might sound like a broken record, is to get as many points as possible and see where we finish.

“We can’t look ahead. It’s very difficult in the Premier League to win three, four, five games in a row. We know that. We respect the opposition.”

If Tottenham fail to qualify for the Europa League (along with the new Europa Conference League), it would be the first occasion since the 2009/10 season that the club will not be involved in an European competition.

That is a record that Mason admitted that he and his players are desperate to avoid.

He added: “Every game we play we respect them and our mind and our attention has to be on Wolves at the weekend and it will be.

“Hopefully doing that we can get a positive result and at the end of next week hopefully we’ll see where we are, but of course we want to be in European competitions.

“Of course this football club that’s what we strive for. That’s what we want and what we expect, to be in the Champions League and going forward of course.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would normally be happy for us to finish eight and have a season without European football but the introduction of the Europa Conference League changes things. I am desperate for us to avoid that competition which is why I am hoping that we win at least two of our three remaining games and seal a place in the Europa League.
