Ryan Sessegnon praised in German press after making his full Hoffenheim debut

Ryan Sessegnon has been praised by some of the German press after making his first start for Hoffenheim in their Europa League group stage opener against Red Star this week.

The Spurs loanee had already come on as a substitute in the club’s last two Bundesliga games but Hoffenheim fans got to see him complete a full ninety minutes for the first time this week as they emerged 2-0 winners on Thursday.

German publication Fussball Transfers (as translated by Sport Witness) have given a very positive appraisal of the 20-year-old’s display.

The report suggests that the early indications are that Sessegnon’s loan spell will be positive with the youngster showing flashes of skill against Red Star.

Sessegnon, who started as a left-back, is said to have been an attacking threat during the game, including when he produced an ‘elegant flowing movement’ that ended with a shot on goal.

It is said that the England Under-21 international showed why he is thought of as a promising talent in England.

However, the report also suggested that there were one or two uncertain moments in Sessegnon’s debut that would not have pleased ‘efficiency fetishist’ Jose Mourinho.

There does not appear to be any doubts over Sessegnon’s qualities going forward. However, if it is true that Jose sees him as a left-back, then he will have to improve defensively. The Spurs boss will be hoping that a season of regular football at Hoffenheim will help him do just that.
