‘Same desire’ – Academy starlet sends message to Spurs fans

Tottenham youngster Yago Santiago has taken to social media to reveal his excitement at kicking off his second season with the North Londoners.

The talented midfielder joined the club’s academy from Celta Vigo last summer after netting an impressive 15 goals for Celta’s Under-16s prior to his move (Spurs official).

The central midfielder is highly rated back in Spain and Spurs had to fend off interest from several clubs in order to secure his services (The Sun).

The 17-year-old, who likes to get on the ball and control games from the middle of the park, has had a decent first season in North London.

The youngster featured ten times for the club’s Under-18s before the season ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic (transfermarkt.com).

Santiago was even called up to train with the Tottenham first-team squad last year by Mauricio Pochettino, just a few months into his time at the club (Football.London).

So far, there has been no indication that the teenager has been involved with the first-team at Hotspur Way since Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs.

The youngster has insisted that his desire to succeed remains high ahead of the new campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

Santiago will have his work cut out if he has hopes of breaking into the first team within the next couple of years. He does not exactly fit the profile of young players that Jose likes giving opportunities to. Additionally, there is considerable competition in the central midfield role with several talented youngsters coming through the club’s set up at the moment.
