Scott Munn explains exactly what his role is at Tottenham as chief football officer

Tottenham Hotspur had to wait longer than expected to get Scott Munn into the club as part of the new-look set-up and he has now been explaining exactly what his role entails.

Munn had never held a job in European football prior to his appointment as Tottenham’s chief football officer with his previous position having been as the chief executive of City Football Group (CFG) China.

It had initially been hoped that Munn would start at Spurs on July 1, but that was delayed because of his prolonged exit from CFG and eventually joined in September.

What does Scott Munn do at Tottenham Hotspur?

The Australian’s role sees him have a place on the club’s board alongside the likes of Daniel Levy and take charges of all footballing departments, including the academy and the women’s team.

He has given a rare interview this week as part of his trip back to his homeland following the announcement that Tottenham will play fellow Premier League side Newcastle United in a post-season friendly in Melbourne on May 22nd.

When asked by Optus Sport of what his role entails, he said: “I look after everything that’s to do with football operations, so whether it’s the technical element through Johan Lange, who is our technical director, or women’s football or the academy led by Simon Davies, through to operations of the training centre. Then for us it’s about competing at every level.

“This year we’re continuing to change and improve and hopefully we’ll see ourselves finish as high as we possibly can.”

The rebuild of Tottenham has been well overdue with the academy having been overlooked by the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Already this season we have seen Ange Postecoglou hand Jamie Donley his Premier League debut while the likes of Alfie Dorrington have been in the matchday squad; it’s vitally important that our young talent see a pathway to the first team.

Hopefully Munn is given the autonomy and resources to be able to put his vision together.
