Scout reveals how much Tottenham will charge to sell James Maddison

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King believes that Tottenham Hotspur will be ready to cash in on a senior midfielder this summer, but only if they receive more than what they paid for him two years ago.

Over the last few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation regarding potential big-name exits from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

It has been widely reported that Cristian Romero wants to swap Spurs for Atletico Madrid, while several sources have said that Rodrigo Bentancur’s Tottenham future may be in doubt.

A few days ago, it was revealed that James Maddison could also be potentially on his way out of Spurs this summer, just two years on from his big move from Leicester City.

Bryan King makes a £50m James Maddison claim

The update from a few days ago suggested that Maddison is more likely to remain at Tottenham if Ange Postecoglou leaves, given the Australian’s reluctance to play the attacking midfielder beyond 60 minutes in every game.

King believes that Spurs will listen to offers for the 28-year-old this summer, but insisted that the North London club will want to make a profit on the England international.

When asked about the speculation over Maddison’s future, the former Spurs scout told Tottenham News: “Spurs paid around £40 million for Maddison. Therefore, they will want at least £50m. I would say anywhere between £50-60 million would be accepted.

“Maddison has had some positive moments at Tottenham and got himself into the England team. However, he has also lost his place in the England team due to his inconsistency.”

James Maddison’s future could depend on incoming manager

It is pointless to speculate on who may leave and who will stay until a new managerial appointment is confirmed by the Tottenham hierarchy.

It is clear that the writing is on the wall for the Australian, with several outlets reporting that Postecoglou will be sacked even if Spurs win the Europa League.

While one would think that any incoming manager would like to have a player of Maddison’s quality and leadership skills in the squad, it remains to be seen whether the Englishman will fit tactically into the next head coach’s system.
