Sell or keep? – A break down of Spurs’ 12 ‘up for sale’ players and which they cannot afford to lose

Recent reports have been circling that Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for 12 first team players this summer.

While the concept of an overhaul at Spurs may be attractive to some fans, with Pochettino given the opportunity to invest in new talent and shake things up, the sale of some of these 12 would be a disaster.

Let’s go through them one by one:

Serge Aurier – SELL

Aurier has failed to make much of an impact since joining from PSG and continues to be defensively naïve. Spurs should get what they can for the troublemaker.

Kieran Trippier – KEEP

Trippier has been at the club for a number of years and has developed well under Pochettino. If the Argentine is to sell one right back, it should be Aurier, as Tripps has the added advantage of being home grown. Despite an awful season, he deserves one more chance, even if it is as an understudy to Wan Bissaka.

Danny Rose – KEEP

The same situation as Trippier. Danny Rose is home grown and has been at the club for donkey’s years. He has always been a top performer and passionate about Tottenham. The club should be keeping him close and helping him through a tough patch in his career, as he still has a lot to offer.

Toby Alderweireld – KEEP

This one is more down to the player. Hopefully Toby will be open to seeing out the final year of his contract, and if that is an option, Spurs should take it. £25m for one last year of Alderweireld, and the chance he might then sign an extension is worth it.

Fernando Llorente – SELL

This would technically be Llorente leaving on a free, but it is time for Spurs to bring in some younger fresh blood up front. Llorente has done a great job this season though.

Vincent Janssen – SELL

Clearly not in Pochettino’s plans, so Spurs should get whatever money they can for him.

Victor Wanyama – SELL

Wanyama was a midfield force a couple of seasons ago, but has fallen out of form and out of favour. I would love to see him playing regular football elsewhere in the Prem.

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou – SELL

Has never made much of an impact at Spurs, and similarly to Janssen, should be moved along for whatever fee they can get.

Erik Lamela – SELL

Despite Lamela being a class act on his day, unfortunately the day doesn’t come around often enough. Adding in his injury problems, Spurs would be wise to sell up if a decent offer comes in.

Moussa Sissoko- KEEP

Anyone who wants to sell this man after the season he has had is mental.

Christian Eriksen – KEEP/SELL

This one is tougher than the others. I would say keep him if he is willing to sign a new deal, but if not, take the money now and reinvest.

Jan Vertonghen – KEEP

Again, any Spurs fan who thinks Vertonghen’s career at the club is done needs their head checked.
