Senior Spurs player claims club will not ‘spit on’ Pochettino’s achievements despite sacking

Moussa Sissoko has revealed that the Tottenham Hotspur players are very happy to be working under Jose Mourinho in North London.

Spurs decided to sack Mauricio Pochettino in November last year after the team made a poor start to the season.

Daniel Levy brought in the Special One within 24 hours of Pochettino’s announced departure and the decision proved to be an inspired one as the Lilywhites initially marched up the table.

However, performance levels dropped considerably after the Portuguese coach’s first two months at the club as the team struggled to pick up wins.

Unfortunately, the Portuguese tactician was not helped by the fact that Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Moussa Sissoko all picked up long-term injuries.

Sissoko, now recovering from his injury, has revealed that the players are looking forward to what comes next under Mourinho. However, he insisted that the team is also still appreciative of what Pochettino achieved in North London.

Speaking to Europe 1, the French international said: “We are happy with Mourinho, he brought a new freshness.

“We are not going to spit on what Mauricio Pochettino did, he took the club to another level but now our future is Jose Mourinho.

“We have objectives, 4th place is always possible, we will do our best.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the media’s attempts to paint Spurs as an unhappy camp under Mourinho, it is clear, based on different player interviews, that the squad is enjoying working with the Portuguese coach. There is no doubt that some of the criticism that has come Jose’s way has been rather harsh. I expect to see a major change after Mourinho has had a full pre-season to work with the squad.
