Senior Tottenham players held meeting after recent defeat – Journalist reports

In a recent appearance on The View from The Lane Podcast, journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has offered a look into things behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur, and discussed the aftermath of the big defeat against Leicester City.

Tottenham have so far struggled to hit a consistent run of form this season. Nothing exemplified this issue more than the terrific win over Manchester City earlier this month, which was then followed up by a heavy 4-1 defeat against Leicester City.

Spurs took the lead at the King Power Stadium, but crumbled completely and the Foxes ran riot. The loss was a real low point of the season and clearly caused a lot of concern among the squad and staff at Tottenham.

Defender Ben Davies told Football.London last week about the way Antonio Conte communicated with the team after that game. The Welshman explained how difficult it was to ‘bounce back’ from that result, but insisted the squad was ‘united’.

Now, Pitt-Brooke has shed further light on the situation following the defeat and how the meetings between players and staff played out.

He said: “I think it’s interesting that in the absence of Conte we have seen more collective responsibility. I think that’s true of the players. I spoke to Ben Davies after the game and he said how Stellini told the senior players they have to do their bit.

“I know last week that there were big meetings at Spurs amongst senior players in response to the Leicester game and how they make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Something had to give after that Leicester game, and I think it was a real wake-up call for the players that this season has just not been good enough.

We’ve seen the beginnings of a difference since, and now we just need to see more consistency as we press on and try to claim a top-four spot.
