‘Sensational player’ – Paul Robinson backs Spurs to sign Bundesliga star

Paul Robinson has claimed that the reports suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are set to pursue Marcel Sabitzer this summer is proof that Daniel Levy is ready to back Jose Mourinho.

Sabitzer was linked with a move to Spurs during the January transfer window but the move failed to materialise.

Multiple sources have backed the North Londoners to make a summer approach for the Austrian at the end of the season.

It has been suggested that Leipzig are open to selling the 27-year-old, who would have just a year left on his contract with the Bundesliga club at the end of the campaign.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold claimed earlier this week that Spurs will try to take advantage of the Leipzig star’s contract situation and look to sign on for a cut-price deal this summer.

Robinson is convinced that the midfielder would be a perfect fit for Mourinho’s men.

The former Spurs goalkeeper told Football Insider: “Sabitzer is a sensational player.

“He really is a top player and I think he’d be a good signing.

“Spurs have been linked with him for a while and quite a few other top players and it tells you a lot about the chairman. It is credit to Daniel Levy really.

“It shows you that he is not afraid to spend big and he is not afraid to back his manager either.”

Making a move for Sabitzer is obviously a no-brainer for Spurs given that he is a natural replacement for Dele Alli and would not cost a fortune due to his contract situation. However, singing the 27-year-old will not prove straight-forward as there are likely to be several other clubs around Europe who are also looking at him.
