Serge Aurier has taken to social media to send his wishes Andre Gomes well following his involvement in the horrific injury sustained at Goodison Park.

The Everton midfielder was originally tackled by Son Heung-Min but landed awkwardly against Serge Aurier, forcing him off the field with a fractured ankle.

Son was dismissed for his challenge that was initially given as a yellow card by referee Martin Atkinson, meanwhile, Aurier spent the rest of the match being jeered by Everton fans.

The Ivorian captain was amongst the long list of Tottenham players including Paulo Gazzaniga and Dele Alli, to send their best wishes to the former Barcelona player.

Aurier posted the following message on Instagram.

Gomes will be expected to miss a large part of the 2019/20 campaign after being rushed to hospital to require surgery on his ankle.

The Toffees released a statement to thank all members of the football community for their wishes, as well as to confirm that the surgery went ‘extremely well’.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. After Son’s tackle Gomes stumbled forward put his right foot flat on the ground and maybe would have been OK if it hadn’t been for the cowardly Aurier coming in studs up and stamping on Gomes’ foot. This is the action that did the damage not Sons tackle, which being from behind with no intent to get the ball was worthy of a red card. Aurier, because of his actions should also get a retrospective red card.
