New Tottenham Hotspur signing Sergio Reguilon has taken to social media to react to Tottenham’s 5-2 thrashing of Southampton on Sunday.
Spurs announced the capture of the left-back along with the return of Gareth Bale on Saturday evening.
While the arrival of Bale has understandably stolen the limelight, Reguilon’s arrival could also be a boost for Jose Mourinho, with the Spurs boss admitting that he was impressed with the 23-year-old’s performances on loan at Sevilla last season (Football.London).
While Reguilon, unlike Bale, is not thought to be too far away from being match-fit, the deal was not completed quickly enough for the defender to play a part in Tottenham’s trip to St Mary’s.
The former Real Madrid man was seemingly impressed by what he saw from his new teammates as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min put the Saints to the sword in the second half.
Reacting to the win, Reguilon took to Instagram to write: ‘Well done guys’
Spurs Web Opinion
The general consensus among Spurs fans seems to be that Reguilon’s arrival opens up the possibility for Mourinho to switch to a more balanced back five, with advanced wing-backs on either side. However, I believe we are likely to continue with a lop-sided back four for now. Jose likes the idea of defending with a back four and building with three at the back, which means Doherty’s place is under threat after Reguilon’s arrival. I can see us playing a more defensively sound option at right-back and going with the Spanish international over Davies at left-back.
