‘Stop’ – Reguilon reveals what he told referee to help stricken Newcastle fan

Sergio Reguilon has been speaking about the moments during the match between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur which have seen him been praised on social media among the footballing fraternity.

The match was suspended shortly before half-time for more than twenty minutes after a Newcastle supporter required urgent medical attention in the stand.

The incident occurred in the east stand of St James’ Park where Reguilon was operating closest to in his role of left-back and it was the former Real Madrid man who made referee Andre Marriner aware of the situation unfolding just as Spurs were waiting to take a corner.

A member of the Newcastle medical team raced across the pitch with a defibrillator to come to the aid of the stricken supporter before being stabilised and taken to hospital for further assessment.

The Spaniard was impressive throughout the match with Tottenham’s 3-1 lifting them up to fifth in the Premier League table.

He told Sky Sports: “I saw the fan lying down, and one man [giving him CPR], I was very nervous, I went to the referee and said we cannot play, stop the match. The referee and the linesman looked there and stopped the match. Now, I think he’s okay, right? That’s more important than everything.”
